Investigating Perceptions of Quality in Mental Health Care
In health care, we so often see the words “high-quality” applied to every type of care, including mental health care. So, what does that mean for people? We asked a large survey of U.S. adults who needed mental health care what they thought about quality and what they experienced in care.
The results were interesting: most people just want a therapist who will listen to them and treat them with respect. Respondents overwhelmingly prioritized the relationship over other potential markers of quality, including years of experience or a successful track record of treating patients with the same concerns.
We also asked providers to share their thoughts on what high-quality mental health care is, and what can prevent the delivery of such care.
